Need Help? We'll Get You There
A Housing Resource Center (HRC) is an agency that has agreed to receive calls for assistance with housing needs on behalf of the homeless or those in imminent danger of homelessness. Often, the HRC is comprised of partnerships in various regions of the state. Individuals referred will be assisted, directly or indirectly in locating housing units, completing rental applications, understanding the terms and conditions of their lease, applying for rental assistance and benefits, receiving eviction prevention services, and accessing other services provided through partnering agencies. While several agencies around Michigan provide unique services to individuals and families, only those that have agreed to serve any homeless who call with a need for affordable/accessible housing are listed on this site.
If homelessness is not the issue, there are other options not listed here. If a member of a family has a disability, it may be helpful to contact a nearby Disability Advocacy Agency. For physical and other disabilities, contact a nearby Disability Network (formerly known as Centers for Independent Living). For mental illness and developmental disabilities, we suggest contacting a local Community Mental Health office. For assistance with adaptation or weatherization of a home, we suggest contacting a nearby Community Action Agency. If a family or individual is not homeless, and no one in the household has a disability, but they are out of funds, we advise contacting a nearby office of the Department of Human Services. For additional help, contact a nearby Continuum of Care office, which consists of representatives from each human service agency, or call 2-1-1 if that service is available in your area.
